This is a romantic wood box from an estate sale. The story told to me from the  elderly sister is that that box was handmade by her sisters husband-to-be to hold her engagement ring. Designed with a carved pansy on the top, (her favorite flower). The eggs (made of stone) were given to the wife each time she was  with child, who put them in the box. The box was lined with satin but it fell apart & she replaced it with paper. What kind of wood it is I cannot say but it is thin like a thick shaving. The condition shows age damage but other than the edges, the condition is pretty good. The box measures 3" across & 2 1/4" high.
